Allow point-based-skilled-visa-applicants to have a spouse or de-factor-partner during visa-processing

On December 17th, 2022, Arash Barinder Singh, a registered migration agent, and director of No Worries Migration, popularly known as Arsh Dhillon, submitted a petition to the House of Representatives to amend the Australian Immigration law.

The petition calls for changes to the current laws that prohibit point-based skilled visa applicants who were single at the time of their application from having non-citizen spouses or de facto partners at the decision time of their visa application. Currently, applicants must remain single until a decision is made on their visa application or review application. The petition was recently approved by the Standing Committee on Petitions and is now available for signatures.

The signatures open on January 25th and close on February 22nd, and the petition will then be presented in the House. Mr. Arash Barinder Singh’s petition is a reflection of the need for more fair reasonable and equitable application processes for skilled migrants and of the desire for them to be able to enter into relationships without negatively impacting their visa applications.
