Welcome to our immigration blog! If you’re applying for a visa to join your partner in Australia, you’ll need to provide a range of documents to support your application. In this post, we’ll outline the forms and documents you’ll need to provide in order to give your application the best chance of success.

One of the key forms you’ll need to complete is Form 80: Character Assessment of Applicant. This form is used to assess whether you are of good character and therefore able to enter or remain in Australia. It’s also required for any dependent children aged 16 or over who are included in your application.

In addition to this form, you’ll need to provide at least two statutory declarations from third parties supporting your relationship. These declarations should be completed on Form 888. We recommend providing four to six of these forms in total to strengthen your application.

In terms of personal documents, you’ll need to provide the following:

  • Passport biodata page for the applicant
  • Passport biodata page for all dependents included in your application
  • Two passport photos of the applicant
  • Two passport photos of all dependents included in your application
  • Full birth certificate of the applicant (showing the names of both parents)
  • Full birth certificate of all dependents included in your application

Other identity documents you may need to provide include a family book (where relevant) and court-issued documents (where relevant). If you have changed your name, you may also need to provide evidence of this, such as a deed poll or statutory declaration.

In terms of evidence of your shared accommodation, you’ll need to provide documents such as a joint lease agreement, bond payment, mortgage documents, joint property ownership documents, and utility bills showing your joint names. You should also provide photos of your home.

To demonstrate that you and your partner correspond with each other, you can provide evidence of online orders for books, clothes, and other items that have been sent to your shared address. You can also provide letters, cards, or invitations that have been mailed to you both at your home address (don’t forget to save the envelopes that show your name, address, and date). Letters from your bank, including bank statements, that show your joint home address can also be used as evidence.

Evidence of joint financial commitments may include joint bank accounts, joint credit or debit cards, joint insurance, joint rental payments, joint utility accounts, joint pet bills, joint gym memberships, and joint car loans. Other joint bills or financial commitments can also be provided.

To show that you and your partner are members of the same organizations or groups, you can provide evidence of joint gym memberships, joint golf or tennis club memberships, and other memberships.

Finally, you’ll need to provide detailed relationship statements for you and your partner, as well as any additional documents for dependent children. These may include parental responsibility documents for children under 18, adoption papers for children, and Form 80 and police clearances for children aged 16 or over.

Your sponsor will also need to provide certain personal documents, including a passport biodata page, two passport photos, a full birth certificate, and evidence of employment over the past two years. They’ll also need to provide evidence that they are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, as well as Australian and offshore police clearances (where applicable).

Finally, you’ll need to provide health and character documents, including Australian and offshore police clearances (where applicable), visa medicals, and any other required health checks.

We hope this checklist has been helpful in outlining the forms and documents you’ll need to provide as part of your partner visa, the list is not exhaustive. We highly recommend that you should consult a registered immigration consultant.
