Visitor Visa Checklist

✅ Identity documents

Provide the pages of your current passport that show:

  • Your photo
  • Personal details
  • Passport issue and expiry dates
  • If you have a national identity card, include it.
  • If your name has changed, provide proof such as:
  • A marriage or divorce certificate
  • A document from an Australian Registry of Births, Deaths, and Marriages or the relevant overseas authority
  • Documents that show other names you have been known by

✅ Genuine visitor documents

Provide as much evidence as possible that you are visiting Australia temporarily, such as:

  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay and return home, such as:
  • Personal bank statements
  • Pay slips
  • Audited accounts or CA report
  • Tax records
  • Credit card limit
  • A letter from a relative or friend in Australia inviting you to visit stating Details of your plans while in Australia.
  • Their relationship to you
  • The purpose and length of your visit
  • Whether you will be staying with them
  • If this person is paying for your stay, provide proof of their funds.

Evidence that you have reasons to return home, such as:

  • A letter from your employer stating you will return to your job
  • Proof of enrolment in a school, college, or university in your home country
  • Proof of immediate family members in your home country such as birth certificate of dependent children, school/college enrolment evidence
  • Proof of ownership of a house or other major assets in your home country

✅ Character documents

  • If applicable, provide any military service record or discharge papers.

✅ Additional documents for parents requesting a longer visa

  • If you are a parent or step-parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen and are requesting a visa valid for more than 12 months, provide:
  • A letter stating this
  • Proof that your child is an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • You may also be asked to provide proof of adequate health insurance coverage.

✅ Translation

  • If you have any non-English documents, have them translated into English by:
  • A translator accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters in Australia
  • Or a translator outside Australia who includes their:
  • Full name
  • Address and telephone number
  • Qualifications and experience in the language they are translating
  • These details must be in English on the translation.

✅ Certification

  • Do not get police certificates certified. Send the original copies.
  • Have all other original documents, including non-English documents and English translations, certified.
  • Include a completed visitor visa assessment form.

✅ Financial documents (for high-risk countries such as India, Pakistan, Nepal)

  • Copies of bank statements (personal and business) over a period of time showing consistent savings history.
  • Copies of documents showing any other funds or assets held.
  • Taxation documents for the last three years.
  • If a friend or relative in Australia is paying for your visit, a Statutory Declaration stating their support and evidence of their financial capacity to do so, such as a letter of invitation, bank statements, and tax documents.
  • Even if your travel is being funded by a friend or relative, provide evidence of your own financial status as it will be taken into consideration when assessing whether your personal circumstances would encourage you to return to your home country.

✅ Employment details

  • If you are employed:
  • A letter from your employer stating:
  • Your position
  • Salary
  • Length of employment
  • Confirmation of your leave of absence
  • The name and contact details of the person providing the letter
  • If you are self-employed:
  • Business registration documents such as:
  • Business lease, Business licenses ,
  • contracts,
  • Business bank transactions,
  • Any Tax or GST documents of business,
  • copies of the social media pages of the business
  • If you are retired:
  • Evidence of your retirement, such as a letter from your employer
  • If you are a student:
  • Evidence of your enrolment, such as a letter from your school, college, or university, stating the course, duration of the course, and the approval of the leave of studies

✅ Travel documents

  • Copies of your travel tickets or itinerary, showing:
  • Your travel plans
  • Dates and countries you plan to visit
  • If you have previously travelled to other countries, provide copies of your previous visas or evidence of your travel history.

✅ Health insurance documents

  • Provide evidence of health insurance coverage for the duration of your stay in Australia.

✅ Supporting documents for your application

  • Depending on the purpose of your visit, you may need to provide additional documents such as:
  • Business letters
  • Invitation letters
  • Conference papers
  • Educational documents

✅ Police certificates

  • If you have lived in a country for more than 12 months in the past 10 years, you may be asked to provide a police certificate from that country.
  • Do not get the police certificates certified. Send the original copies.
